SAFEDRONE™

SAFEDrone is a classroom protocol for safe drone training and operations as a 6th -12th grade elective or as a unit in a STEM Lab. Students apply classroom math, science and engineering learning to fly drones, leveraging STEAM concepts. Student Safety is our objective and this program is for indoor flight only.

Unit 1: Using the SAFEDrone curriculum students learn the basic terms and physics of flying a quad-copter using a controller.

Unit 2: Simulator training teaches Throttle Control (holding altitude), Hover, Translate over patterns, land and Forward Flight. Once this 5-step ladder is completed, students graduate to fly the drone game mode in 3-dimensional space picking up stars. Upon completion of all simulator training students are awarded the “Pilot Wings” and are ready to fly a real quadcopter.

Unit 3: The classroom is divided into a Fly and No-Fly zones. All students remain in the No-Fly Zone wearing Safety Glasses (supplied). Students now repeat the training using our guarded prop quad-copters. Altitude Hold on Bullseye target Landing, Moving Horizontally, moving diagonally and eventually qualifying to fly an obstacle course of foam triangles, squares, rectangles in the classroom.

Students form 3-student “Flight Crews” for all activities, encouraging Collaborative Learning. We want to building Self-Esteem by accomplishing complex tasks together and understanding the why and how aircraft fly. Awarding Certificates of Achievement after successfully completing each milestone sends students home with a document they can be proud of.

                Flying Students into Great Careers

SAFEDrone curriculum and lesson plans guide the teacher through each unit. The STEMPilot K12 curriculum provides the supporting learning documentation for understanding the Why and How. Installing the simulator software on your Windows PC is easy.
