Carlthorpe Visit Shows How ES Students Can Learn the Science of Flight

A recent visit to Carlthorpe School’s Aviation Lab in Santa Monica, CA demonstrated how elementary school students learn the science and math of flight. I ask the 5th grader if he knew how to work the simulator. He said “I do”. Then he proceeded to tell me that he was going to accelerate to 60 knots then rotate and pitch up at 10 degrees. This told me everything about how he understood the math and science of his flight plan. He then continued to complete the tutored mission Fundaments of Take Off.  Students will learn about many great career choices  from this Hands On  Aviation Lab.
